Nora had a Daisy Scout field trip on Sunday, so Aaron and I were on our own. The kid loves "downtown" so we got on the shuttle in Bellevue and got off at Fountain Square. The shuttles got an upgrade this year and look like little trolleys.

Today was Nora's last day of kindergarten, marked by the graduation ceremony.
In the classroom, everything was put away for the summer, chairs and rugs were put up so the floor could be cleaned.
There was one last time with her teacher, and then . . .summer. Nora thought first grade started on Monday, but she'll learn all about vacation.
Aaron loved his train bag - his face absolutely lit up. He carried it proudly to the ball game and spent a happy time playing with his trains. He remembered that last time he and I went "hiking" in the woods beside the ball field, so once he was finished with the trains we hiked the little loop again and again. I thought he wasn't paying much attention to the game, but afterwards he wanted to run the bases.
This morning I decided to make a field trip bag for Nora's Daisy Scout field trip on Sunday. Quilted front and back, with enough room for a small water bottle or Capri Sun plus a snack. Fully lined with two inside pockets, reinforced strips, zippered access.
In case you haven't guessed, it's all about the quilting, the piecing just goes along for the ride.
Aaron loves his trains and likes to take a few train cars along to his sister's t-ball games. I made him this little boy bag, 10" x 10" for just that purpose.
Quilted on both sides, with reinforced straps and velcro because it is, after all, for a boy. Quilting on the back adapted from Leah Day's Double Stippling pattern. Think train tracks.
My roll of Warm 'n Natural batting is getting slimmer and slimmer and I've been eyeing it with dismay. So, yesterday at JoAnn's while it was 50% off plus an additional 10%, I restocked. Almost a full bolt, 31 yards. It was actually Warm 'n White, which I prefer anyway. A big purchase, but I use a lot and appreciate having it on hand, on sale. I also got a few things from their notions wall, 50% off this weekend - Wonder Under and a few other goodies.Steph and Nora got me a $25 gift card from Hancock as part of my Mother's Day present, and I've been saving it for this weekend. Five yards of clearance pastel batiks, webbing for bags, and some more goodies. My out-of-pocket was $1.04. Awesome, thanks, Steph.And today, a ride to Lowe's with my neighbor, and I got three tomato cages, yellow, red, and blue. After weeks of rain and cool it's suddenly hot and past gardening time. Time to get going.
Little patchwork bag - Indygo Junction pattern. I struggled a lot with the zipper, completely replaced it. The directions said to put it in by hand, but that wasn't going to happen. Now that I've done one, I know what to do differently next time. It's gonna be easy.

Cupcakes from Graeter's are his favorite downtown treat but the chocolate milk won out today. Most of the cupcake came back home. 
It was a hot day, so we spent the rest of the afternoon in the library. Aaron was so dismayed when 5:00 came and the library closed for the day. We sat outside on a bench for awhile and read his Thomas book, stretching out the experience.
Sometimes I enjoy taking just one grandbabe out for the day, and they seem to enjoy that too.
