Artist Statement: Several years ago, I made a worship banner for Lent, with different symbols for different weeks: snake, bee hive, water, palm leaf, and a couple of others. Since that time, it’s lived in my closet. This seemed like a good time to bring it out and renew it, retaining the pretty colors in the hand dyed fabric but reconfiguring the pattern to represent transitions. The original banner is still here, and its blocks and symbols were the basis for this new banner, which blends and moves in different ways.
Pictured above is the original. It seemed appropriate to hang the new banner today, when our interim pastor started his work.
